AceShowbiz - Nikki Garcia discussed her post-divorce life and co-parenting with her ex-husband, Artem Chigvintsev. Months after their separation, Garcia spoke candidly to Us Weekly about the challenges and joys of co-parenting their four-year-old son, Matteo.

After filing for divorce in September 2024 following an alleged domestic violence incident, Garcia and Chigvintsev have prioritized Matteo's well-being.

She shared how she explained her split from Chigvintsev to their little boy, "I've used words like divorce, but only when he's asked. Everything's kind of been about us just having our own homes.

They have established a schedule that ensures both parents have time with their son and have worked together to create special moments for him, such as baking Santa's cookies on Christmas.

"We want to keep those moments because he's our focus," Garcia said.

Adjusting to shared custody has been challenging for Garcia, who previously lived only with Matteo. "It's wild that one day you get a schedule and that's just what you do," she explained.

However, Garcia acknowledged that Matteo has handled the changes well. "He's OK and not affected. He's happy to go to both homes," she said.

Reflecting on the split, Garcia expressed that the ordeal was shocking and required a period of disconnection from the public eye. "I knew I had to disconnect because I needed time to process everything," she said.

Garcia is open to future love but is hesitant about legal marriage. "I don't ever want to sign paperwork again," she stated.

Meanwhile, Garcia's decision to distance herself from social media after the split stemmed from her desire to protect Matteo and cope with the situation privately. "My son's protection and privacy were the most important," she explained.

While Garcia still experiences moments of heartache, she remains optimistic about the future. "I feel like I have this whole new era to look at, and I get to choose how I want to be and take it," she said. "I have so much gratitude for my family, my health."
