Social media giant Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is under fire for allegedly forcing users to follow the accounts of President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.

AceShowbiz - Social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram, operated by Meta, have faced severe backlash after accusations surfaced that users were being forced to follow the newly inaugurated President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance. Celebrities such as Gracie Abrams and Demi Lovato were among the first to voice their concerns, taking to their Instagram Stories to highlight the troubling pattern.

Abrams shared, "I had to unfollow @vp and @potus three (3) separate times today because @meta kept automatically refollowing the accounts." Lovato echoed similar sentiments, posting, "I have unfollowed this guy twice today. Shady f***ing business meta."

Many users took to Twitter, X, and Instagram to air their grievances. "Guys you're following those accounts on Instagram because they were once Kamala's and like Jill Biden - @ flotus and @ vp get handed over each time," one user explained. Another Twitter user angrily remarked, "Zuckerberg made the new POTUS, VPOTUS & FLOTUS official accounts on Facebook & Instagram default to 'Following'… without consent."

Meta's Communications Director, Andy Stone, issued a statement denying the claims. He stated, "People were not made to automatically follow any of the official Facebook or Instagram accounts for the President, Vice President or First Lady. Those accounts are managed by the White House, so with a new administration, the content on those Pages changes. This is the same procedure we followed during the last presidential transition."

Despite these assurances, the skepticism among users remained. Some pointed out inconsistencies, asserting that their follows increased gradually and highlighting the complications with follow and unfollow requests. Additionally, tensions were heightened due to the revelation that Meta had previously faced issues with blocking Democrat hashtags and discarding fact-checking programs.

Mark Zuckerberg was among the super-rich attending Trump's inauguration on January 20, joining Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, and Tesla mogul Elon Musk. During the event, the Meta boss faced scrutiny for seemingly ogling Bezos' fiancee Lauren Sanchez's assets.
