As California continues to battle devastating wildfires, renowned filmmaker Tyler Perry is calling insurance companies canceling policies for thousands of affected homeowners.

AceShowbiz - Tyler Perry is calling out insurance companies for attempting to drop clients amid the devastating California wildfires.

The filmmaker voiced his frustrations on Instagram, "Does anyone else find it appalling that insurance companies can take billions of dollars from communities for years and then, all of a sudden, be allowed to cancel millions of policies for the very people they became rich off of?" He added, "People who have paid premiums all their lives are left with nothing because of pure greed."

According to NBC News, the fires have left at least 16 people dead and have swept through 37,000 acres, destroying entire communities and over 12,000 structures. Many private insurers, such as State Farm, have been scaling back coverage in high-risk areas.

State Farm specifically dropped 1,600 policies in Pacific Palisades this July, which is part of a broader trend where insurers like Allstate and Farmers Insurance have reduced coverage or halted new policies in wildfire-prone regions. In total, State Farm canceled more than 70,000 home insurance policies last year, affecting more than 70 percent of homes in the Pacific Palisades area.

This shift has left many homeowners with limited options, including the state-mandated California FAIR Plan, which offers basic fire insurance for properties in high-risk zones.

Perry's comments resonate deeply, especially after hearing tragic stories like that of a woman who stayed in a mandatory evacuation zone to save her parents' home because their fire insurance was canceled.

Perry expressed, "Watching a daughter use a garden hose to try and protect her 90-year-old parents' home because their insurance was canceled was just gut-wrenching to me."

In his Instagram post, Perry mentioned he is researching how to effectively help LA residents amid the crisis, stating, "As I am in the process of trying to figure out what steps to take to do all I can to help as many as I can, I am keeping everyone in my prayers."

Several wildfires began to break out in Los Angeles County on January 7. A fire in the Pacific Palisades burned nearly 24,000 acres while another massive wildfire, the Eaton Fire, burned roughly 14,000 acres near Pasadena and Altadena. Emergency responders are still working to contain these and several other fires around southern California.

While it's clear that the actions of insurance companies have garnered significant backlash, it's the voices of influential figures like Tyler Perry that bring crucial awareness to these critical issues. For those grappling with the devastating impact of the wildfires, Perry's support and activism offer a beacon of hope.
