AceShowbiz - Ice Spice performed at Brisbane's Wildlands Festival on New Year's Eve but disappointed many with her late arrival and brief performance. Fans had anticipated a 30-minute set, but the rapper showed up 25 minutes late, reportedly managing only two to three songs before her microphone was cut off due to strict event timing constraints.
The festival, held at Brisbane Showgrounds, saw attendees traveling up to six hours and paying as much as $242 for tickets, only to experience the truncated performance. As a result, many concertgoers took to social media to voice their frustration, branding Ice Spice as "entitled" and questioning her professionalism.
One attendee fumed, "She is getting paid to show up and perform, probably a lot of money, and she's late? Entitled." Another queried, "Can someone explain to me how/why artists are late for their sets at a festival? They're usually at the festival all day so like what makes them late?"
Clad in a bright pink jacket and her signature bright-orange wig, Ice Spice attempted to downplay the situation by flashing a peace sign as she exited the stage, but this gesture did little to appease the disgruntled crowd. Attendees were vocal about their disappointment, with one concertgoer commenting, "That's embarrassing for Ice Spice, that's what you get for arriving late to the job."
Following the incident, organizers from Untitled Group, who also run the Beyond the Valley festival where Ice Spice was similarly late. "We understand that Ice Spice's delayed arrival caused some disappointment," they acknowledged fans' outrage.
"Managing a stacked festival means that we have to be extremely firm with set times. We had a strict curfew of 12:30 am and needed to ensure that the final act went on stage on time, so everyone could enjoy the New Year's Eve countdown."
The backlash led to calls for Ice Spice to be dropped from upcoming Wildlands festivals in Perth and Adelaide. Fans expressed their sentiments online, with comments such as, "Ice Spice gonna be late for every single set in Australia lmao take her off the line-up," and, "Tell Ice Spice to go home, Perth doesn't need her."
In spite of the drama, the festival continued with performances from other artists, including Australian DJ Fisher, electronic duo Chase & Status, and German DJ Marlon Hoffstadt. Whether or not the controversy affected her reputation long-term, it highlighted the importance of punctuality and professionalism in the music industry - a lesson that Ice Spice and her team are likely to remember.
