AceShowbiz - Comedian Paul Rust has recounted an alleged incident involving actor James Franco on a set following his co-hosting of the 2011 Oscars with Anne Hathaway.
Rust claimed in a recent episode of the "With Gourley and Rust" podcast that he witnessed Franco "flip out" while filming a sketch with his "Your Highness" co-stars for the CollegeHumor website. According to Rust, Franco was upset about the negative reviews of his Oscar hosting stint.
During the promo shoot, Franco reportedly mumbled his lines and went off-script, frustrating the director. When the director questioned him, Franco became more upset and began making ad-libs about himself, including a comment that he was "high on heroin" during the Academy Awards.
Despite the presence of a publicist who warned him against making such statements, Franco continued his tirade. Rust said that Franco eventually stood up, kicked a chair, and stormed off the stage, never to return.
Rust clarified that he does not believe Franco was actually high on heroin during the Oscars night. Co-star Danny McBride reportedly tried to calm Franco down and even offered to call off their promo, but the actor insisted on proceeding with the filming and continued to behave erratically.
The 83rd Academy Awards, which Franco and Hathaway co-hosted, received widespread criticism for the hosts' lack of chemistry and awkward performance. Many critics blamed the duo for the event's disappointing reception.
Franco has not yet commented on Rust's allegations, and his representatives have not responded to requests for comment.
