AceShowbiz - Gwyneth Paltrow has shared insights into her childhood experiences, where she was raised in a blended religious household. During a video conversation with Noa Tishby to celebrate the first night of Hanukkah, Paltrow, 52, revealed that her mother, actress Blythe Danner, and late director Bruce Paltrow faced resistance when they announced their marriage.
"My mother's Christian, my father's Jewish," Paltrow said. "It was a bit scandalous. Nobody was happy about it." The couple's families, she explained, "grew to accept it later in life and kind of let go of all of that."
Despite the initial objections, Paltrow expressed gratitude for the diverse cultural background she inherited. "I felt so fortunate because I got to grow up with these two very different worlds and very different faiths," she said.
She particularly cherished her connection to her Jewish family. "I always felt an incredible pull to my Jewish family," Paltrow said. "I still do. And just the traditions and the warmth and the unconditional love." Her childhood memories of celebrating Hanukkah with her Jewish grandparents included playing with the "gold round coins" known as Hanukkah gelt.
Paltrow shared that her own family practices both Christian and Jewish traditions. She is also proud of her family's Jewish heritage, tracing it back 17 generations to rabbis "We're all kind of interwoven and so important to each other," she said about her close relationship with her extended Jewish family.
