AceShowbiz - The Wanted star, Max George, 36, recently had a rollercoaster of experiences following emergent heart surgery. After being diagnosed with an atrioventricular heart block, George had to undergo a procedure to fit a pacemaker - a device to manage slow heart rhythms.
Describing the surgery, George remarked, "Pacemaker is in. Operation took around 2 and half hours. The main issue being some of my veins had collapsed where the wires were meant to go." This significant surgery has been dubbed by George as the "best Christmas present I could have ever wished for."
However, the journey wasn't without its unexpected humor. Shortly after his operation, George inadvertently flooded his hospital room around 2 A.M. by leaving a sink running.
Sharing the mishap on his Instagram Stories, he humorously narrated, "Just got out of bed then; 2am it is. My feet just went into about a foot of water. I left my sink on and it blocked." Despite this setback, George kept his spirits high, noting his new room was "pretty sound."
His girlfriend, former "EastEnders" star Maisie Smith, 23, has been a pillar of support. Despite the 500-mile distance, she committed to visiting George on Christmas Day.
Smith shared, "We're still talking every day and FaceTiming. I'm still trying to be there as much as I can be. I've got Christmas day off, so I'll be going to see him. We're not 100% sure where he'll be spending Christmas, but whatever happens, we'll be together."
George's recovery is ongoing, with additional tests needed for inflamed lymph nodes on his lungs. Nevertheless, George remains optimistic, calling them "easy work" compared to the heart surgery. Expressing gratitude to NHS staff, he said, "The hospital surgeons, doctors and nurses at the NHS have been incredible. I owe everything to them."
The pacemaker's placement holds special sentimental value, as it sits just beneath a tattoo commemorating his late bandmate, Tom Parker, who passed away in 2022. George is determined to "rest and then tackle life full-on once again," remaining positive despite the challenges. The singer's resilience and humor shine through as he navigates this significant medical journey during the festive season.
