AceShowbiz - Lizzo has spoken out about the harassment lawsuits filed against her by former tour workers, sitting down with Keke Palmer on her podcast for her first interview on the matter since she was sued last year.
"I was literally living in my dream and then the tour ended and three ex-dancers just completely blindsided me with a lawsuit," Lizzo said on Thursday's episode of the "Baby This Is Keke Palmer" podcast.
Three ex-dancers - Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez - accused Lizzo of harassment and fostering a hostile workplace environment. Her former wardrobe stylist Asha Daniels filed a suit a month later, accusing the singer and several members of her team of harassment, disability discrimination, illegal retaliatory termination and assault.
Lizzo scored a key victory earlier this month when she was dismissed individually from Daniels' suit. However, her company Big Grrrl Big Touring Inc. remains a defendant.
"I have been meaning to get this off my chest," Lizzo said, adding that she originally went to the club alone before others joined her. "I didn't take them anywhere. They came to the club I was at, and it was no mandatory invitation," she said. "I didn't even know that those two particular dancers were coming, mind you. Only two of them came, even though all three of them said they did, it was only two I didn't even know they were coming."
Lizzo went on to say that the evening was fun, but "everything was consensual."
Despite the lawsuit, Lizzo maintained her innocence, saying, "Let's be clear, I did nothing wrong. So I have no regrets."
The plaintiffs' attorney Ron Zambrano responded to Lizzo's comments, saying, "There is an utter lack of awareness by Lizzo failing to see how these young women on her team who are just starting their careers would feel pressured to accept an invitation from their global celebrity boss who rarely hangs out with them." Zambrano added, "We stand by the claims in the lawsuit and are prepared to prove everything in court."
The case involving Davis, Williams and Rodriguez is still pending trial.
