AceShowbiz - Already a prolific Hollywood director, Guy Ritchie has embarked on a genre shift with his latest film, "Fountain of Youth". Known for his fast-paced, comedic gangster movies, Ritchie aims to expand his storytelling horizons.
The family-friendly action-adventure film draws inspiration from the beloved "Indiana Jones' franchise, set in a modern context. Written by James Vanderbilt, the story follows two estranged siblings, Luke and Charlotte Purdue, played by John Krasinski and Natalie Portman, who reunite for a global heist to find the mythical Fountain of Youth.
Krasinski's character Luke is described as a thrill-seeker who lives life to the fullest, while Portman's Charlotte is more settled but finds herself drawn back into adventure. Shot in exotic locations like Egypt, Bangkok and Vienna, the filming process was a thrilling adventure in itself for Ritchie and the cast.
The ensemble cast includes Domhnall Gleeson, Stanley Tucci, Carmen Ejogo, Laz Alonso and Eiza Gonzalez, who collaborates with Ritchie for the third time. Ritchie praised the cast's camaraderie and their contributions to the making of the film.
While "Fountain of Youth" marks a shift for Ritchie, he assures fans that it delivers the action they have come to expect from his work. "It's an expensive film - it's three times the budget of 'Ministry'," he revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, hinting at relentless action sequences.
Gonzalez, who plays the role of Esme, describes her character as a formidable protector who adds physicality to the adventure. Portman, too, expressed her excitement about exploring a more adventurous side to her character.
Ritchie's passion for the project is evident in his comments. He notes that filmmaking has become more enjoyable than ever before, and that he strives to create movies that appeal to his family. "Directors really make movies for themselves or their families," he said.
"Fountain of Youth" is slated for release in 2025, bringing a star-studded cast, thrilling action, and a contemporary twist on the classic adventure genre that Ritchie is known for.
