AceShowbiz - Michael Cole, the actor who rose to fame as Pete Cochran in the groundbreaking television series "The Mod Squad", has died at the age of 84. Cole passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 10, "surrounded by his loved ones after living a full and vibrant life," according to his publicist.

"Cole's talent, combined with his magnetic presence, made him a defining figure of the era," the publicist stated. " 'The Mod Squad' not only made him a household name but also broke barriers by addressing themes of racial and social justice, with Cole's performance helping to bring authenticity and heart to the series."

Born in Madison, Wisconsin, Cole found his breakout role as Cochran in the late 1960s. "The Mod Squad" followed three "hippie" undercover cops with "checkered pasts" who infiltrated the counterculture to combat crime. Cole's character, Pete, was a wealthy youth who had been cast out by his parents.

Cole's portrayal of Pete often delved into issues of race and social justice, reflecting the era's social climate. "The Mod Squad" aired for five seasons from 1968 to 1973, also starring Peggy Lipton and Clarence Williams III.

After "The Mod Squad" concluded, Cole continued to appear on numerous television shows and films, including "Wonder Woman", "The Love Boat" and "Murder, She Wrote". In 1990, he took on the role of adult Henry Bowers on the mini-series adaptation of Stephen King's "It". He also appeared as Harlan Barrett on "General Hospital".

Beyond his acting career, Cole released a memoir in 2009 titled "I Played the White Guy", in which he shared his experiences in Hollywood. He is survived by his wife Shelley, his children and a wide circle of family, friends and fans.
