Prepare to enter a world where ballet and bullet ballet intertwine as the 'John Wick' universe is expanding with an exhilarating new chapter starring Ana de Armas as a dancing assassin.

AceShowbiz - At Sao Paulo Brazil's CCXP event, Lionsgate unveiled a new featurette for "Ballerina", the latest film in the "John Wick" universe. The film, set in the period between "John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum" and "John Wick: Chapter 4", follows Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro, a Ruska Roma-trained ballerina who is also an assassin seeking vengeance for her slaughtered family.
To bring Eve to life, the "John Wick" team needed an actress who possessed both classical dance training and acting experience. Ana de Armas proved to be the perfect fit, showcasing her combat abilities and the rigorous training she underwent in the new featurette.
Initially slated for a 2023 release, "Ballerina" debut was postponed to June 6, 2025. Despite apprehensions due to the need for reshoots, de Armas has expressed confidence in the additional footage, assuring fans that it will be "really spectacular."
"Ballerina" is not a "female 'John Wick'," according to director Len Wiseman. While the film sets the stage for Eve Macarro's introduction as a formidable assassin, it offers a new perspective on the John Wick world and explores its extensive lore and rituals.
The featurette highlights how the behind-the-scenes team, including franchise legend Chad Stahelski, Wiseman and the late Lance Reddick, focused on expanding the Wickiverse and infusing the film with the exceptional fight choreography and stuntwork that fans have come to expect.
"Ballerina" boasts an impressive cast including returning franchise favorites Ian McShane as Winston, Anjelica Huston as Director, Keanu Reeves as John Wick, and the late Lance Reddick as Charon. Newcomers to the franchise include Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno and Norman Reedus, whose reaction to seeing Reeves on set is a highlight of the new trailer.
In addition to "Ballerina", the "John Wick" universe is set to expand with an anime prequel that will provide insights into Wick's past. Despite fans' anticipation for a fifth film, director Chad Stahleski has expressed concerns about the possibility of tarnishing the franchise's legacy.
