AceShowbiz - Academy Award-winner Tom Hanks has been handpicked to narrate the 10-episode series "The Americas", which uses cutting-edge technology to immerse viewers into the breathtaking ecosystems of North and South America. Each hourlong episode will focus on a different iconic location, including the Atlantic Coast, Mexico, the Wild West, the Amazon, the Frozen North, the Gulf Coast, the Andes, the Caribbean, the West Coast and Patagonia.
The series, which took over five years to produce and involved 180 expeditions, showcases the extraordinary, untold wildlife stories that connect millions worldwide. It reveals spectacular landscapes and never-before-seen animal behaviors, including new species, intimate courtship rituals, dramatic deep-sea hunting, and even a frog that seemingly defies death every day.
Executive produced by Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning wildlife producer Mike Gunton on behalf of BBC Studios' Natural History Unit, "The Americas" features an original score by Oscar and Grammy-winning composer Hans Zimmer.
"We asked ourselves, who is the American version of David Attenborough? We agreed internally there was a list of one: Tom Hanks," said Toby Gorman, president of Universal Television Alternative Studio. "What we didn't know was if he would agree to do it. But it resonated with him."
"The Americas" premieres on NBC and Peacock on February 23, 2025 at 7 P.M.. ET/PT with a special two-hour episode. Following the premiere, it will air in its ordinary 8 P.M. ET time slot beginning March 2, 2025. Episodes will also be available to stream on Peacock.
