AceShowbiz - On Wednesday afternoon, November 20, LeBron James posted on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram that he would be "getting off social media for the time being." His statement came in response to a post by Rich Kleiman, Kevin Durant's manager, who criticized negative sports coverage and praised James's short-lived podcast with JJ Reddick.
In his post, Kleiman wrote, "With so much hate and negativity in the world today, it confuses me why some of National sports media still think that the best way to cover sports is through negative takes." James reposted the statement and added, "And with that said I'll holla at y'all! Getting off social media for the time being. Y'all take care."
James' departure from social media follows criticism he has faced online, including accusations of nepotism toward his son, Bronny James. Some users suggested that Bronny's presence on the Los Angeles Lakers was solely due to his father's influence, rather than his own merit.
Additionally, James' endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris in the recent election drew backlash. After Trump's victory, James expressed disappointment and stated that he would protect his daughter from "their help."
James's decision to leave social media also coincides with a decline in NBA ratings. Some speculate that the increased negativity and criticism online may have contributed to this decline.
As of now, James has not provided a specific timeframe for his return to social media. His departure has sparked discussions about the impact of negative coverage and the need for more positive and respectful sports discourse.
