AceShowbiz - Kyle Richards talked about the most daunting conversation she's ever had: talking to her daughters about her evolving sexuality. Over the past few years, there has been rampant speculation about her relationship with musician Morgan Wade, further fueled by her separation from husband Mauricio Umansky after 27 years of marriage.
Richards recounts that the rumors and media speculation about her and Wade led her to question her own sexuality, a topic she had never delved into before. "It was the most difficult conversation I've ever had with my children and I was terrified to have that conversation. I just wanted to be as honest as I possibly could," she shared with Page Six's "Virtual Reali-Tea."
Richards said her previous upbringing didn't accommodate such thoughts. "This is not the way I was raised. That's not the way my mind even operated. And all of a sudden I was thinking like that and I wanted to be as honest with them as possible because they are my best friends," she explained.
Richards hoped to set an example for her daughters, encouraging them never to feel ashamed about their identity or difficult conversations.
To her relief and pride, her daughters - Farrah (36), Alexia (28), Sophia (24), and Portia (16) - responded with empathy and support. "Having that conversation, their reaction and response to me, I thought, 'Wow, I mean, I'm just so impressed by these four women in front of me,' and I thought, 'Maybe, just maybe, I did do a good job,' " Richards recalled. This acceptance turned out to be a proud moment for her as a mother.
Since then, the family has found levity in the situation, sharing jokes and maintaining a strong bond. "For me, to have their support - regardless of what happens in my life - means the world to me. They just want me to be happy," she said.
Regarding her current relationship with Wade, Richards admitted they have stepped back due to the overwhelming media scrutiny and Wade's discomfort with the attention. "I think she just didn't want any part of anything to do with my role [on] reality television and all that came with it," Richards said.
Nevertheless, she respects Wade's decision to stay out of the public eye. "I am an open book, but I cannot speak to other people's lives or experiences when they have not signed up to do this and don't want to be a part of this." Season 14 of "RHOBH", featuring Richards and other familiar faces, premieres on November 19 on Bravo and starts streaming on Peacock the following day.
