AceShowbiz - Warner Bros. has announced that Oscar-winning director Bong Joon Ho's upcoming film "Mickey 17" will be released on April 18, 2025, a three-month delay from its previous January 31, 2025 release date.
The new release date gives "Mickey 17" access to IMAX screens, which were previously booked for Lionsgate's "Michael", a Michael Jackson biopic that has since been pushed to October 3, 2025.
"When the April 18 date became available, we quickly moved to secure it for 'Mickey 17'," a Warner Bros. spokesperson said. "We're thrilled with the new date, and very happy the film will be available to audiences in IMAX."
Additionally, Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have shifted the release date of "Companion", a horror film, to January 31, 2025, taking advantage of the IMAX footprint left open by "Mickey 17".
"With January 31 now available with a full IMAX footprint, we are also very happy to have 'Companion' releasing on this new date," the Warner Bros. spokesperson added.
"Mickey 17" stars Robert Pattinson as an expendable employee named Mickey Barnes who is sent on dangerous missions to colonize an ice planet. When one version of Mickey dies, a duplicate is created to replace him, retaining most of his memories. The film also features Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo.
Based on Edward Ashton's 2022 novel "Mickey7," the film was initially scheduled for release in March 2024 but was delayed to 2025 to allow for more time to complete post-production. Studio sources have expressed confidence in director Bong following positive response to the film's first trailer, which was released in September.
