AceShowbiz - Anna Kendrick, 39, has opened up about her seven-year abusive relationship. Speaking on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast, Kendrick revealed that she initially struggled to recognize the true nature of her situation.
"I was reading articles and it didn't feel exactly like what they described," she said. "It was like an overnight switch that went on for about a year."
Kendrick initially assumed she was at fault for the relationship problems but realized that her partner was the actual issue. Despite the love and trust she had for him, she said it was "very difficult" to confront the truth. "I turned my life upside down trying to fix myself," she recalled.
Kendrick's therapist also initially believed her partner's narrative. However, she eventually confronted the situation, leading to an apology from the therapist who admitted to realizing the truth. "Things ended pretty quickly after that," Kendrick said.
She described one incident when her ex-partner accused her of "terrorizing" him for crying. "He believed he was being terrorized," she explained.
Kendrick has since made a film called "Alice, Darling" which explores emotional abuse. She revealed that she began working on the movie shortly after her own relationship ended.
"I didn't want anybody to tell me not to do it," she said. "Because I had just gotten out of a relationship that was extremely similar to the movie."
Kendrick's experiences highlight the challenges of identifying and escaping abusive relationships. She encourages others to trust their instincts and not be afraid to seek help.
