AceShowbiz - David Corenswet is continuing his rise to stardom after landing the coveted role of Clark Kent in DC Studios' "Superman". Deadline reports that Corenswet is now in negotiations to star in Skydance Sports' "Mr. Irrelevant".
"Mr. Irrelevant" is based on the true story of John Tuggle, who earned the titular nickname after being the last pick of the NFL Draft in 1983. Despite being the final selection, Tuggle had a significant impact on his team, the New York Giants.
Jonathan Levine is set to direct "Mr. Irrelevant", with Emmy-nominated writer Nick Santora penning the screenplay. The film will be produced by Skydance Sports, with Levine, Gillian Bohrer and Santora among the producers.
Corenswet's casting follows a competitive race for the role, which included his "Superman" co-star Nicholas Hoult. Corenswet's recent performances in "Pearl" and "Twisters" have showcased his range and talent.
The title "Mr. Irrelevant" originated in 1976 and has become synonymous with Irrelevant Week, a celebration of sorts for the last-picked player in the NFL Draft. Corenswet's portrayal of Tuggle promises to tell an inspiring and heartfelt story about overcoming challenges and making an impact.
Corenswet's next project "Mr. Irrelevant" adds to Skydance Sports' growing slate of football-themed movies. If you're looking for excellent American football films, consider "Remember the Titans" (2000), "Friday Night Lights" (2004), "The Blind Side" (2009), "Any Given Sunday" (1999), or "The Longest Yard" (2005).
