AceShowbiz - In the 2009 supernatural drama "The Lovely Bones", Saoirse Ronan played a teenage girl who investigates her own murder from heaven. Ryan Gosling was originally cast as her father but was replaced by Mark Wahlberg.
In a recent interview, Ronan spoke about Gosling's firing, saying she understood the decision but was saddened by it. "I just loved Ryan and his dog, George," she remarked. "I was just sad that he wasn't gonna be around. But I think the reasons why they parted were totally valid."
Ronan explained that Gosling and Jackson had differing views on the character's physical appearance. Gosling gained 60 pounds to portray the grieving father, but Jackson believed the character should be thinner. This, along with a lack of communication during pre-production, led to Gosling's dismissal.
Despite this setback, Wahlberg stepped into the role and brought his own experiences as a father to the character. Ronan said, "Mark was able to step in, and he was a father to, like, I don't know, three kids? He probably had an experience of that that Ryan felt he didn't." Wahlberg's performance was praised by both critics and audiences.
Although Ronan was initially disappointed by Gosling's departure, she later reunited with him in his directorial debut, "Lost River." She praised him for his unwavering consistency, saying, "It was great then to work with him later. He's just, like, the same. He doesn't change."
