AceShowbiz - Selena Gomez made her father and fans proud at the premiere of her latest project, "Emilia Perez". On Monday, the actress graced the red carpet of the 62nd Annual New York Film Festival at Film at Lincoln Center.
During the event, she spoke to "Extra" about her experience in the Spanish-language musical comedy. Gomez expressed her gratitude to director Jacques Audiard for giving her the opportunity to showcase her acting abilities. She also revealed that she had never performed the type of dances featured in the film before, but found them to be a liberating and passionate experience.
Speaking Spanish in the movie held particular significance for Gomez. "It meant the world to me that he [Audiard] trusted me with that and it meant a lot to my family," she explained, adding that she relied on coaches and her father's guidance to nail her performance.
Gomez's family played an important role in her preparation for the film. "He [her father] was like, 'You're texting me, mija,' " she recounted, expressing her pride in being able to communicate with him in Spanish.
The actress also shared an emotional moment she experienced at the Cannes Film Festival, where "Emilia Perez" debuted. "We had never seen the movie, the cast, so I didn't know what to expect," she said. "To see the reaction... I was actually more tearful for Karla [SofĂa Gascon] because she put her whole being into this and she just deserves all the praise."
Gomez acknowledged the buzz surrounding her potential Oscar nomination. "I don't know. We'll see about that," she replied. "I truly feel honored that it's even being acclaimed the way that it is. It's such a beautiful story, so if anything, this is my proudest moment for sure."
