AceShowbiz - Jared Harris, star of "Morbius", has admitted that his decision to join the Sony spin-off film was influenced by his need for money. "I have a mortgage to pay, you know," Harris told Britain's i News. "Sometimes you say yes to things because you need to make money."
Despite his financial motivations, Harris acknowledges that the film's overall reception could have been improved with more humor. "I have observed that those types of films do well if you have a sense of humor," he said. "You can't treat it as though it's Shakespeare. So yeah, that movie could have done with a more mischievous sense of humor."
Released in 2022, "Morbius" was a notable flop within Sony's "Spider-Man Universe" films. It received negative reviews from critics and underperformed at the box office, leading to a nomination for "Worst Director" at the Golden Raspberry Awards.
Harris isn't the only cast member to express opinions on the film's shortcomings. Matt Smith, who played the antagonist Milo, described "Morbius" as "thrown under the bus" upon release. However, Harris emphasized the need to "roll with it" and that the film's failure did not diminish its importance.
"It's a film, at the end of the day, we're not saving lives," Harris said. "For whatever reason, it didn't quite work out and… It is what it is."
