AceShowbiz - Ice Spice apparently is no longer facing a legal problem over her music. It has been reported that the "Princess Diana" hitmaker has reached a settlement to end a copyright lawsuit over her song titled "In Ha Mood".
On Monday, September 23, it was said that "attorneys for both sides said they had agreed to resolve the lawsuit" in a motion that was filed in federal court days prior. However, "specific terms of the deal were not disclosed in court filings." It took around eight months to settle the lawsuit.
In January, Ice, whose real name is Isis Naija Gaston, her producer Riot, Universal Music Group, Capitol Records and 10K Projects were slapped with a lawsuit over the track. It was reported that the 24-year-old female hip-hop artist and her team were sued for copyright infringement by D.Chamberz, a rapper from Brooklyn.
In court documents, D.Chamberz accused Ice of "straight up ripping off their work." The rapper claimed that he wrote and recorded a song titled 'In That Mood', which he allegedly released "on all major digital platforms in January 2022."
D.Chamberz believed that Riot "heard it on the radio way before her song came out" since he allegedly "performed it dozens of times" in venues in New York City, where Ice and Riot live. He also insisted that she and her team copied "the beat, lyrics, hook, rhythmic structure, metrical placement and narrative context of his track."
Furthermore, D.Chamberz claimed that "his song got airplay on Hot 97 FM in NYC," adding that "it's more likely than not Riot was tuning in." He also said that "there are social media receipts" that could back his claim. He sued Ice, Riot and the three music companies as he wanted "at least half of the song's publishing and other revenue plus damages."
Ice launched "In Ha Mood" in 2023 along with its official music video. The track reached No. 58 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and peaked to No. 18 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
