AceShowbiz - The first trailer for Marvel's "Thunderbolts" has arrived, offering a glimpse into the world of the MCU's version of DC's Suicide Squad.
In the teaser, Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova pays a visit to her father, David Harbour's Red Guardian/Alexei, confiding in him about her feelings of emptiness and lack of purpose. Despite throwing herself into dangerous assassinations, she still feels unfulfilled.
Enter the Thunderbolts, a ragtag crew of Marvel villains tasked with missions for the U.S. government by the mysterious Val (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). The group includes John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), each with their own shady pasts.
As the misfits are gathered at a top secret facility, their innate impulses to kill one another become apparent. "Everyone here has done bad things," Yelena says in the trailer. "So, someone wants us gone."
The film marks a reunion for Yelena and Alexei after the death of Yelena's sister, Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson). According to David Harbour, the relationship between father and daughter starts and ends "terrible."
"There's a bit of an estrangement happening," Harbour said. "Part of the film deals with mental illness and self-hatred, for sure, and the tripping over yourself. Part of what this family dynamic is about is overcoming these things."
Thunderbolts will also introduce Lewis Pullman as the bewildered Bob. The film is directed by Jake Schreier and produced by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. It is scheduled to release on May 2, 2025, as one of the final Phase 5 movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
