AceShowbiz - Artem Chigvintsev's attorney has addressed his pending divorce from Nikki Garcia, following his arrest for domestic battery.
Chigvintsev will not comment on his divorce from Garcia, his attorney, Ilona Antonyan, told PEOPLE. "The parties are focused on co-parenting and working together for the best interests of their son," Antonyan said, referring to their 4-year-old Matteo.
Chigvintsev's response to Garcia's divorce filing, filed on September 13, differed from her request. While Garcia sought sole legal and physical custody of Matteo, Chigvintsev requested joint legal and physical custody. He also requested spousal support and attorney fees while Garcia requested no support for either party.
Antonyan explained that Chigvintsev's response preserves his financial rights but that the parties intend to resolve pending issues mutually. "There is no motion pending for spousal support or fees," she said.
Garcia's divorce filing came nearly two weeks after Chigvintsev was arrested for corporal injury to a spouse in Napa Valley, California. While the spouse's identity was not confirmed, Garcia is believed to be the victim.
Chigvintsev and Garcia met as partners on "Dancing with the Stars" in 2019. They became engaged in 2019, welcomed Matteo in 2020, and married in 2022. Garcia confirmed her divorce filing, requesting privacy for herself and her family.
