In a new interview, the Grammy-winning singer reveals that the husband of Beyonce once discouraged her by telling her to stop making music and focus on getting pregnant.

AceShowbiz - Eve recalled getting doubt from people surrounding her early in her career. In a new interview, the singer revealed that one of those who cast doubt on her as she was finding success was Jay-Z.
Speaking with The Times, Eve shared that Hov congratulated her after she released her debut album, "Let There Be Eve...Ruff Ryders' First Lady", in 1999. However, she noted that the rapper told her that women rappers "don't really do that well."
Not stopping there, Eve alleged that the husband Beyonce Knowles discouraged her by telling her to stop making music and focus on getting pregnant. Her label additionally tried to stop her from making her hit record, "Let Me Blow Ya Mind", featuring Gwen Stefani.
Eve, however, successfully proved them wrong. Her first album sold two million copies and peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Meanwhile, "Let Me Blow Ya Mind" peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned Eve and Gwen a Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration in 2002.
Of the pushback, Eve said in the interview, "The audacity that these men had." However, she said, "Now I have age and experience on my side, nobody's coming at me like that."
Upon catching wind of the interview, fans blasted both Jay-Z and Beyonce. "If Jayz was not married to Bey, a lot of his dirty laundry wud have come out by now. Ppl r a fraid to reveal stuff bc of bey fans," one person wrote in an Instagram comment. Another said, "Jay and Bey not innocent lol."
Some others, meanwhile, pointed out that Nicki Minaj had been telling this for a long time only to get bashed by people. "Meanwhile Nicki been saying this but all y'all wanna do is label her crazy & angry. BYE!" one penned. One other added, "This why you gotta give Nicki her flowers she changed that narrative..."
This wasn't the first time Eve, who is set to release her debut memoir "Who's That Girl?" on Tuesday, September 17, talked about the matter. Earlier this month, the 45-year-old told Page Six, "Back then, you had to physically go out and build your audience and just going into these rooms, which were very male-dominated, completely male-dominated." She continued, "Thankfully I won that battle."
