AceShowbiz - A recent court ruling has granted Porsha Williams her request to "quash" her ex-husband's subpoena and request for a videotaped deposition of her employer, True Entertainment. Additionally, a protective order has been issued to prevent further invasive discovery attempts by Simon Guobadia.
The crux of the legal battle revolves around the couple's prenuptial agreement. Guobadia claimed that Williams had not fully disclosed her intention to continue her career in reality television or other jobs, which he argued would make the prenup invalid. He also asserted that Williams had agreed to be a stay-at-home wife and mother during their marriage.
However, the court dismissed these claims, noting that Guobadia was aware of Williams' reality TV career when they signed the prenup. The judge stated, "Wife has been a reality TV celebrity for years, which was well known to Husband at the time of negotiating the Prenuptial Agreement, and Husband nevertheless married Wife with this knowledge."
The prenuptial agreement was designed to avoid lengthy and expensive legal disputes in the event of a divorce. The court emphasized that the agreement was carefully negotiated over a year, with both sides represented by skilled lawyers, and included full financial disclosures. As a result, the court found no grounds for claims of fraud, mistake, misrepresentation, or pressure.
This decision represents a major victory for Williams as she moves closer to finalizing the divorce. With the prenuptial agreement likely to be upheld, Williams is expected to have her legal costs covered by Guobadia and will soon be officially divorced.
Williams filed for divorce in February after 15 months of marriage, alleging that it was "irretrievably broken." The divorce proceedings have involved disagreements over the validity of the prenup, the status of their shared home, and Williams' financial situation, especially after her recent deal with NBC Universal.
Despite Guobadia's attempts to challenge the prenup, the court has ruled in Williams' favor, upholding the fairness and validity of the agreement. As a result, Williams is entitled to her legal fees and will walk away from the marriage as a single woman.
