AceShowbiz - Acclaimed actor Josh Brolin won't be joining DC Universe. The Marvel actor has declined an offer to portray Hal Jordan in the upcoming "Lanterns" series, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Brolin, who was envisioned as the iconic Green Lantern hero originally portrayed by Ryan Reynolds in the critically-panned movie, got the offer in late August but eventually turned down the role by the end of this past weekend. This decision marks a significant point in the pre-production phase of the series, which already boasts an impressive lineup of creators and executive producers.
Produced under HBO's banner, "Lanterns" is spearheaded by showrunner Chris Mundy, known for his work on "Ozark" and "True Detective". Mundy is joined by Damon Lindelof, the celebrated mind behind HBO's "Watchmen" and "Lost", and esteemed comics author Tom King. Together, they have crafted an eight-episode series expected to shoot from January to June next year in Atlanta.
The show promises a gritty, "True Detective"-esque vibe, focusing on an intricate narrative that sees Hal Jordan reluctantly mentoring a younger Lantern, John Stewart. As one of DC's first Black superheroes, Stewart's character is poised to bring fresh energy and diversity to the series.

Speculation had also surrounded actor Matthew McConaughey, but sources confirm that he will not be taking on the role either.
