On the night he passed away, the "Type of Way" rhymer allegedly took a single pill, which was supplied to him, that Quan believed to be a "perc." The friend said, "It was just one pill, and it took his life. He was just experimenting."
"There are all these people taking tons of pills and other stuff and nothing happens. Quan takes one pill and it ends his life," the distraught friend insisted.
As reported before, Quan, born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, passed away at his home in Atlanta on Thursday, September 5. Confirming the sad news, his family told TMZ that they were "shattered and heartbroken" by his sudden death and are looking for answers as to what could have happened.
Subsequent reports revealed that Quan was found unresponsive by his girlfriend Amber Williams, who called 911. She said he had fallen asleep on the couch the night before and had not woken up or moved since falling asleep.
Williams told the operator she had placed a blanket over him and left to take her son to school. However, when she returned and checked on him, she found him not breathing and with no heartbeat. She told the operator that he had "foamed at the mouth" when she turned him over. When paramedics arrived at the scene, they pronounced Quan dead.
Quan's autopsy is scheduled for Friday, and his cause of death remains unknown. However, Boosie Badass (Lil Boosie), who was among the first celebrity to react to Quan's death, claimed that Quan had overdosed.
One day after his passing, Quan's father Corey Lamar broke his silence on social media. "Unbearable pain," he wrote on his Instagram Story on Friday. He continued, "Lord please please please help me understand this. To lose my son, my 1st born, my best friend. Lord please let this be a dream.... "
Lamar also asked fans of his late son to pray for him and his loved ones. "Y'all pray for me and my family," he added, before concluding his heartbreaking message, "I feel like I'm crushed into a million pieces."
