AceShowbiz - "Creature Commandos", an animated series focusing on a secret team of incarcerated monsters, will debut exclusively on Max on December 5. James Gunn's Instagram post showcasing the series' cast of characters has sparked speculation among fans.
One photo shows GI Robot, a World War II-era robot, alongside members of the Easy Company, a fighting unit led by Sgt. Rock. Although the two figures beside GI Robot remain unnamed, fans believe one of them could be Sgt. Rock, due to his iconic silhouette.
Sgt. Rock, created in 1959, has a strong connection to the Creature Commandos, having been featured in their previous animated short in 2014. This possible Easter egg could foreshadow his inclusion on the new series and potentially lead to a future DCU debut.
While Sgt. Rock has not been part of James Gunn's initial DCU announcement, the director has hinted that there is more to come. The recent rumor of Luca Guadagnino possibly directing a Sgt. Rock movie further adds to the speculation.
It's important to note that Gunn's take on the Creature Commandos differs from his work on Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy". These antiheroes lack the sentimentality of the Guardians and are more akin to the ruthless Ravagers from the first "Guardians of the Galaxy" film.
The "Creature Commandos" series will follow a team led by Rick Flag's father and include characters such as Weasel, Dr. Phosphorus, Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein and Nina Mazursky. It will delve into Weasel's origins and provide context for his appearance in "The Suicide Squad".
"Creature Commandos" stars a talented cast including Sean Gunn, Frank Grillo, Maria Bakalova, Indira Varma, Zoe Chao, Alan Tudyk, David Harbour, Steve Agee and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller. The series will comprise seven episodes, airing weekly from December 5 to January 16 on Max.
