Netflix has given a straight-to-series order for an animated adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's 'Midnight Sun', a retelling of the first 'Twilight' novel from Edward Cullen's perspective.

AceShowbiz - Originally reported as in early development in April 2023 at Lionsgate Television, the "Midnight Sun" animated series is now being developed by Netflix. The novel, released in 2020, offers a fresh perspective on the beloved "Twilight" story, which follows the romance between human Bella Swan and vampire Edward Cullen.

Sinead Daly, known for her work on "Tell Me Lies" at Hulu and "The Walking Dead: World Beyond" at AMC, will serve as writer and executive producer. Meyer and Meghan Hibbett will also executive produce the series for Fickle Fish Films. Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen will executive produce for Temple Hill Entertainment, which also produced the "Twilight" films. Erik Feig and Samie Kim Falvey will executive produce for Picturestart.

"Midnight Sun" is one of four novels in Meyer's immensely popular "Twilight" series, published between 2005 and 2008. The franchise has also inspired a five-film series, known collectively as "The Twilight Saga", which grossed over $3 billion globally and launched the careers of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner.

Following the success of "Midnight Sun", Meyer announced plans to write two additional books in her vampire series.
