AceShowbiz - Former WWE star and "Dancing with the Stars" alum Nikki "Bella" Garcia is reportedly taking steps to end her marriage following her husband Artem Chigvintsev's recent arrest for domestic violence.
According to TMZ, Garcia has been making calls to divorce lawyers since Friday, August 30, the day after Chigvintsev was charged with felony corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant. The former WWE champion is allegedly seeking legal representation to file for divorce.
Garcia's decision follows Chigvintsev's arrest on August 29. Chigvintsev called 911 to request medical assistance but then called off the request. Despite an attempt to cancel his plea for help, Police showed up at the couple's home in Yountville, California, where they observed "injuries" on the alleged victim and arrested him.
Garcia has not yet publicly commented on the incident or the divorce proceedings. While she has returned to work by hosting Netflix's hotdog eating contest on Labor Day weekend in Las Vegas, she has not been wearing her wedding ring since her husband's arrest.
Sources close to the couple have stated that Chigvintsev is no longer living in the marital home and is instead staying with a friend. Garcia, meanwhile, is residing in the primary residence with their 4-year-old son, Matteo.
In his 911 call, Chigvintsev reported an argument with his wife, during which he alleged that she threw shoes at him.
Garcia and Chigvintsev met in 2017 while competing on "Dancing with the Stars" and began a romantic relationship in 2019. They welcomed their son in 2020 and married in Paris in August 2022. The couple celebrated their second wedding anniversary just days before Chigvintsev's arrest.
Following the arrest, rumors emerged that the couple's marriage was strained, and sources have described it as "volatile."
The alleged domestic violence incident has also impacted Chigvintsev's professional life. Sources have confirmed that he will not be returning for Season 33 of "Dancing with the Stars".
