James Gunn unveils a behind-the-scenes image of John Cena's Peacemaker costume for the second season, pays tribute to the character's comic debut, and teases the future of the DCU.

AceShowbiz - James Gunn has taken to Instagram to reveal a first official look at the new helmet John Cena's Christopher Smith will don in the second season of "Peacemaker". The photo, captured from the back, showcases a fresh design that may draw inspiration from the character's early appearances.

Alongside the image, Gunn commemorated the anniversary of Peacemaker's first comic appearance in Fightin' 5 #40 (1966), created by Joe Gill and Pat Boyette. He expressed his admiration for Cena's portrayal, stating that he was "born to play" the role.

While the series' plot details remain largely under wraps, Gunn confirmed that Robert Patrick will reprise his role as Auggie Smith, despite his demise in the season 1 finale. This, along with his previous comments about the relationship between season 1 and the DCU, suggests that the show may delve into an alternate timeline or a new reality.

The cast of "Peacemaker" season 2 includes Danielle Brooks, Steve Agee, Sol Rodriguez and David Denman. Frank Grillo will also return as Rick Flag Sr. from the "Creature Commandos" animated series.

Gunn reiterated that season 2 will take place after the events of his Superman movie, which is slated for release next summer. He previously hinted at minor changes from season 1 but maintained that the show would essentially pick up where it left off.

As for whether Peacemaker will make other DCU appearances, Cena has expressed his enthusiasm for future projects. However, he emphasized his support for Gunn's vision, regardless of his own involvement.

Premiere date of "Peacemaker" season 2 has not yet been announced.
