AceShowbiz - The Democratic National Convention has set the record straight. After rumors suggested that Beyonce Knowles would give a surprise performance and endorse Presidential nominee Kamala Harris, the DNC insisted that it was not them who sparked the chatters.
Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss, the executive producer and director of the DNC, addressed the matter on Tuesday, August 27. They emphasized that Beyonce was never involved with the event.
Ricky additionally told The Hollywood Reporter that he denied the rumors at every opportunity. "We never put out anything about Beyonce," he asserted. "We denied it every time the media asked us. Even though people on my staff didn't believe me. I kept getting texts from news organizations."
Ricky went on to note that they never intended to recruit Beyonce so Kamala wouldn't be overshadowed by the singer. "We have the biggest star, the Democratic nominee for president," he boasted. "Why would we overshadow that?"
Glenn Weiss, meanwhile, declared, hhhhhhh "This is the Internet taking on a life of its own and people taking something as fact," he stated. "Literally to the point that people in my booth are saying: 'Is she coming? You can tell me.' " Weiss also pointed out that TMZ picked up the rumor, and later had to issue an apology. "It was pretty crazy," he concluded. "But she wasn't coming."
The DNC broke their silence after Megyn Kelly accused it of using Beyonce's performance rumor as a "ruse" to boost ratings. "This is why I think they released the lie about Beyonce allegedly showing up at the event last night," she asserted in the Friday, August 23 episode of "The Megyn Kelly Show" podcast.
"They wanted to boost ratings," she added. Beyonce's team itself squashed the rumors around 7 P.M. ET. on Thursday. "Beyonce was never scheduled to be there," her rep told The Hollywood Reporter, leaving fans and journalists deflated.
