Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, entered a guilty plea to a felony charge of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) in Smith County, Texas.

AceShowbiz - Patrick Mahomes Sr., 54, pleaded guilty on Tuesday, August 27, to the DWI charge, which stemmed from an arrest on February 24. According to court records obtained by PEOPLE, Mahomes Sr. had a blood alcohol content of 0.23 when pulled over by an officer in Tyler, Texas, just days before his son led the Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory.
Under the terms of his plea agreement, Mahomes Sr. agreed to five years of probation, with the first year subject to "intense supervision." He will not face any jail time if he successfully follows the terms of his probation. Formal sentencing is scheduled for September 23.
In addition to the DWI charge, Mahomes Sr. is also facing a charge of driving without a valid license in Smith County. He was arrested on June 29 and pleaded not guilty in late July. A pre-trial hearing for that charge is scheduled for October 15.
Mahomes Sr. previously pleaded guilty to a DWI arrest in 2018 and served 40 days in jail. In 2016, he was charged with public intoxication during a college football game.
According to a report from KETK, the officer who arrested Mahomes Sr. in February witnessed an open can of beer in his vehicle. He failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody.
Mahomes Sr. is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played for six teams over 11 seasons. He was part of the 1999 NL playoffs with the New York Mets.
