AceShowbiz - Queens of the Stone Age (QOTSA) stunned fans on Friday, August 23, with the announcement that all their 2024 concerts have been canceled or postponed. The decision follows Homme's need for "essential medical care" through the remainder of the year.
The news comes just over a month after the band had to cancel their European shows due to Homme's emergency surgery.
"QOTSA regret to announce the cancellation and/or postponement of all remaining 2024 shows. Josh has been given no choice but to prioritize his health and to receive essential medical care through the remainder of the year," the band issued a statement on social media.
Back in June 2023, Homme revealed in an interview with Revolver Magazine that he had been diagnosed with cancer a year prior and had undergone successful surgery to remove it. However, he did not disclose the specific type of cancer. In an attempt to push through for their fans, QOTSA had initially tried to maintain their tour schedule, but it became clear that pausing was the only viable option for Homme's well-being.
"Queens are gutted we aren't able to play for you. We apologize for any inconvenience and share in your frustration and disappointment," the band conveyed in their social media posts. They urged ticket holders for festival appearances to check specific festival websites for updates, while those with tickets for headline shows will be contacted directly from the point of purchase.
The band's latest album, "In Times New Roman…", was released in July 2023, marking their first new record in six years. The album rollout included performances across North America, Australia, and Asia earlier in the year, but the health challenges faced by Homme necessitated the latest tour cancellations.
With hopes to resume in 2025, QOTSA and Homme are focusing on a full recovery. "There's a lot of stuff I want to do. And there's a lot of people I want to do that with," Homme told Revolver Magazine, highlighting his optimism despite the challenging times.
Ticket holders looking for further information on the rescheduled dates and cancellations are encouraged to stay vigilant for updates directly from their points of purchase or relevant festival websites. As the rock community rallies in support, fans remain hopeful for QOTSA's return to the stage, fully recharged and ready to rock.
