During filming in Aberdeen, Scotland, del Toro moved into a haunted hotel room vacated by a producer due to "odd electrical and physical occurrences."

Initially, del Toro expressed excitement about staying in such a place, having previously experienced supernatural phenomena only once before. However, the atmosphere in the room proved overwhelming, prompting him to seek alternate sleeping arrangements. Despite acknowledging the possibility of suggestion, he maintained a sense of something malevolent present.

Upon returning to the room after filming, del Toro captured unsettling images, including a self-portrait obscured by mirror specks. He also attempted to record electronic voice phenomenon (EVP), a mysterious voice often heard in audio recordings.

Del Toro reiterated the room's oppressive energy, describing it as "angry and territorial" with "a shred of rage." Despite his affinity for the macabre, the experience has left him shaken.

While del Toro's Frankenstein film features the titular scientist (Oscar Isaac) and his tormented creation (Jacob Elordi), it remains unclear if his hotel encounter will inspire any cinematic adaptations.
