AceShowbiz - LL Cool J sparked controversy when he revealed his Def Jam Mount Rushmore, which included himself, Public Enemy, Slick Rick and the Beastie Boys. Many fans disagreed with his omission of Jay-Z and DMX, but LL defended his choices on "The Joe Budden Podcas"t.
"I'm not talking about who was the most commercially successful," he said. "The question was, 'What is the Mount Rushmore of Def Jam?' That is about the architects and the bones of the label."
LL explained that Def Jam was built by a core group of artists, including himself. "I watched this sh**t when it was a f***ing idea on a Post-It," he said. "That's what built the company."
He also pointed out that he was instrumental in introducing DMX to the world through his song "4,3,2,1." He continued, "I know DMX is supremely talented, but I also introduced him to the f**king world."
LL's comments highlight the importance of acknowledging the pioneers who laid the foundation for successful businesses and organizations. While popularity and commercial success are important, it is equally vital to recognize those who played a pivotal role in creating the legacy that others build upon.
