AceShowbiz - Alicia Silverstone's latest TikTok has certainly captured attention - but perhaps not in the way she intended. The "Clueless" star shared a clip of herself taking a bite out of a small, tomato-like fruit she found on a London street.
"I've discovered something, and I can't figure out what it is, and I need your help," she announced to her followers, adding that since she's curious about the plant, she decided to taste it in hopes to help identify it.
In the video, Silverstone examined the fruit, noting, "It's definitely not [a tomato] because of these leaves. Look at those leaves. So what the heck is this?" She even displayed the inside of the fruit, which was filled with seeds larger than those typically found in tomatoes. "I don't think you're supposed to eat this. It's almost like a pepper," she added, seeking her fans' assistance in naming the mysterious berry.
However, the comments section quickly turned into a platform of concern. Many followers identified the berry as a Jerusalem cherry, a member of the nightshade family that is known to be toxic.
"OMG NO!! Jerusalem Cherry very poisonous in the Nightshade family, Hope you are ok," one fan urgently warned. "Girl! Berries are either great or freaking poisonous! Don't eat random bush-things," another advised.
The Jerusalem cherry, or solanum pseudocapsicum, is often mistaken for a cherry tomato but can cause serious symptoms if consumed, including vomiting, diarrhea, drowsiness, hallucinations, and heart rate issues. According to the Northern New England Poison Center, the fruit is "harmful to eat" and is best left as an ornamental plant.
As of the latest updates, Silverstone has yet to post a follow-up video to confirm her health status. Media outlets have reached out to her representatives for comment but have not received a response.
Fans are left in suspense, hoping for an update from the actress. "Is Alicia ok??? We need an update!" one follower wrote. Meanwhile, others sought to educate, explaining that the plant could be an "itchy berry" or rosehip, used historically in pranks for its itching powder-like effect.
This unexpected incident has not only served as a reminder of Alicia Silverstone's adventurous spirit but also highlighted the importance of caution when encountering unknown plants. As one fan humorously put it, the actress's experience was a "clueless" moment that turned into a lesson for all.
