AceShowbiz - Lil Durk has claimed that he's leading a completely different life as a Muslim. Having been associated with a street gang in Chicago since dropping out of high school, the rapper has insisted that he's leaving the old days behind and is entering a new chapter as he embraces his faith.
On Sunday, August 18, the 31-year-old made use of his Instagram post to proudly declare that he's a "1000% Muslim." He wrote in the caption of his picture, "Don't label me nothing outside of A MAN A FATHER and A 1000% Muslim - THE VOICE."
The "Backdoor" rapper later explained the statement on his Story featuring the same image. "I don't gabgband [sic] I'm a Muslim basically what I was saying on my post in so many words you can't do both ima be the one who say it," he wrote.
The Grammy Award winner, also known as The Voice, further hinted at a new trajectory in his music to reflect his faith. "so if you follow me as a brother a friend a icon follow me to my new chapter of life when I make music," he added. "I rap what I seen and been through not telling you to go do it HUGE difference the music won't change but my life goals will..."
Lil Durk added "God Did", a song by DJ Khaled featuring Rick Ross on the Story. DJ Khaled has described himself as a devout Muslim.
While Lil Durk has just started a new chapter in his life, he has previously made use of his music to reflect his faith. On his track "Pelle Coat" which is off of Durkio's 2023 album "Almost Healed", he sings over the melodic tune, "Mornin' time I pray to Allah/ Forgive me for the s**t that I did/ Let me get closer to my kids/ Can you protect all of my friends."
The impact of Lil Durk's music was so big that an African fan revealed he converted to Islam after listening to the song. In May 2023, the fan posted a video of him kneeling in an all-white thobe with his palms outstretched. He then wiped his face and arms and leaned forward, which represents a symbolic gesture of cleansing oneself.
Catching wind of the fan's post, Lil Durk reacted, "This what makes me feel good everything happens for a reason."
