AceShowbiz - Sony Pictures' "Madame Web" has become a resounding failure, disappointing many fans who expected better. The movie debuted with a dismal 12% on Rotten Tomatoes and earned a mere $100.3 million worldwide.
Isabela Merced, who played Anya Corazón in the film, recently shared her thoughts on the movie's reception. Despite the negative feedback, Merced has a soft spot for Madame Web.
"It's a campy movie, and we had a lot of fun," Merced said. "The group chat was full of laughter and memes, which made the experience memorable."
However, Merced also acknowledged the hard work put in by many crew members, "It's sad because there were people who worked so hard on this project. I can't help but think about those who saw this as their chance to make a big break." She said, "It does [leave] a sad taste in my mouth."
Merced emphasized that she feels fortunate to have other opportunities but expressed sympathy for her fellow cast and crew. "I've learned that in these situations, there are often too many stakeholders with different visions," she said.
Despite "Madame Web" critical failure, Merced maintains a positive outlook. "I love campy movies like The Room, Flubber, and Catwoman," she said. "I'm actually a little proud of Madame Web in that sense."
Merced is not the only cast member to share their thoughts on the movie. Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, and Emma Roberts have also voiced their disappointment. However, director SJ Clarkson and Celeste O'Connor have remained silent.
Despite the setbacks, Merced has found solace in upcoming projects such as "Alien: Romulus", "The Last of Us" season 2, and "Superman", where she will play "Hawkgirl".
