In a new episode of her talk show 'The Drew Barrymore Show', the actress shares that the 2004 rom-com classic '50 First Dates' almost had a very different ending.

AceShowbiz - Drew Barrymore recently shared a surprising revelation during an episode of "The Drew Barrymore Show". She claimed that the original ending of her 2004 romantic comedy "50 First Dates" was drastically different from the one we all know and love.

Instead of the heartwarming reunion and happy ending, the original version of "50 First Dates", then titled "50 First Kisses", took a more somber turn. The film, set in Seattle rather than Hawaii, concluded with Barrymore's character, Lucy Whitmore, telling Sandler's Henry Roth that he should leave because she was a burden.

"You should go and live your life, because this is no life here," Barrymore recalled Whitmore telling Roth. "And (Roth) goes away, as he does, and he comes back and he walks into the restaurant and he just sits down and says, 'Hi, I'm Henry.'"

Barrymore's revelation shocked co-host Ross Matthews, who expressed his relief that the proposed ending was scrapped. "Honestly, can I just tell you: Thank you," Matthews said. "Thank you for changing it."

The final version of "50 First Dates", released in February 2004, concludes with Whitmore regaining her memory and reuniting with Roth and their daughter. The film grossed $198.4 million at the global box office and earned Barrymore and Sandler a People's Choice Award for Best On-Screen Chemistry.

Despite the initial script's darker ending, "50 First Dates" has become a beloved rom-com classic, leaving audiences with a message of hope and resilience in the face of adversity.
