AceShowbiz - Shawn Mendes' long-awaited era has officially begun. On Thursday, August 8, his 26th birthday, the Canadian singer-songwriter dropped his new single, "Why Why Why," alongside its music video and a second track, "Isn't That Enough". Both singles will feature on his upcoming album, "Shawn".
The "Why Why Why" music video showcases Mendes performing in a barn and river, alternating with shots of him in an empty venue. Directed by Anthony Wilson and Connor Brashier, the visuals reflect the introspective and personal lyrics. Mendes sings of a lost love, questioning why their relationship ended prematurely.
"Thought I was about to be a father," he reveals in the final verse. "Shook me to the core, I'm still a kid. Sometimes I still cry out for my mother. Why why why? Why why why?"
"Why Why Why" and "Isn't That Enough" mark Mendes' first solo releases since his 2023 charity single, "What the Hell Are We Dying For?". The upcoming album, "Shawn," will be his first since 2020's "Wonder".
Earlier this month, Mendes announced the new album with an emotional note, expressing his gratitude for the journey and support of his loved ones. "Music really can be medicine," he said. "2 years ago I felt like I had absolutely no idea who I was."
Over the past two years, Mendes has embarked on a self-reflective and introspective journey, which is reflected in his upcoming album. Recorded in various studios surrounded by nature, the album features collaborations with Scott Harris, Mike Sabath and Nate Mercereau.
In support of his upcoming album, Mendes will perform intimate concerts throughout the United States and United Kingdom from August 8 through October 24. He has also scheduled appearances at major music festivals, including Rock in Rio and Corona Capital.
Shawn Mendes' return to music with "Why Why Why" and "Isn't That Enough" signals an exciting new era for the singer-songwriter. His raw and honest lyrics, coupled with his introspective growth, are sure to captivate fans and critics alike.
