AceShowbiz - Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson is celebrating his legal victory in a lawsuit filed against him by Cory "Ghost" Holland, a former drug kingpin who claimed that Jackson stole his life story for the popular "Power" franchise.
New York District Judge Analisa Torres recently dismissed Holland's complaint, which alleged that Jackson, co-creator Courtney Kemp, Starz and Lionsgate had infringed upon his rights by exploiting his life experiences in the creation of "Power". Judge Torres found that the Ghost character in the series did not directly refer to Holland, a necessary element for a defamation claim.
Holland had argued that he had met Kemp's father in the 1990s to discuss his life story as he sought to abandon the drug trade. He also claimed to have sent Kemp an autobiographical CD in 2007, containing songs that allegedly echoed plot elements in "Power".
Despite Holland's claims of over 200 scenes in the show mirroring his life, Jackson's attorney, Joanna Hill, dismissed the suit, stating that Holland failed to identify any defamatory statements made about him in relation to the fictional series.
Taking to Instagram, Jackson expressed his amusement over the dismissal of the lawsuit, posting a screenshot of the news with the caption, "Fool thought he was GHOST. Da fvck wrong wit these [ninja emoji]s man LOL."
The "Power" franchise, which has spanned six seasons on Starz, follows drug dealer Ghost (Omari Hardwick) as he attempts to leave his criminal past behind. Jackson serves as an executive producer and appears in the series as fellow drug dealer Kanan Stark.
