AceShowbiz - Shortly before her death from cancer, Shannen Doherty praised Alyssa Milano's work on the television series "Charmed." Milano, 51, portrayed Phoebe Halliwell on the show, which initially cast Lori Rom in the role.
During an episode of "The House of Halliwell" podcast released on July 16, Doherty spoke about Milano's audition for the role. "Lori and Alyssa are very, very, very different people," Doherty said. "Lori was a lot like Holly and I in the sense of [being] very grounded in drama."
However, Doherty noted that when Milano joined the cast, she "provided a levity that I think the show ended up needing." She added, "She came in and she did a great job." Despite their past issues, Doherty acknowledged Milano's positive contribution to the series.
This podcast episode was recorded before Doherty's death. Co-hosts Holly Marie Combs, Brian Krause and Drew Fuller announced they would release the first five episodes to honor the actress.
Doherty's positive words may surprise some, as she and Milano have had a history of conflicts. In an episode of Doherty's "Let's Be Clear" podcast, Combs claimed that Milano got Doherty fired from "Charmed." Milano later denied this, stating that she had no power to fire anyone.
Doherty also alleged that Milano and her mother prevented her from visiting Combs in the hospital after a tumor removal. Milano's mother denied these claims.
After her cancer diagnosis, Doherty became emotional while addressing the feud at a MegaCon Orlando panel. "What somebody else may call 'drama' is an actual trauma for me," she said. She added that she was determined to heal from the trauma that had taken away her livelihood.
Milano responded to these accusations, expressing sadness over the continued toxicity surrounding the show. She wished she could have appeared on stage with Doherty and Combs, and stated that she had apologized for her role in the situation.
Doherty responded to Milano's claims, emphasizing the importance of truth in her narrative. "There is no revisionist history happening in the truth that I know we told," she said.
Doherty's death on July 13, 2024, came after a nearly 10-year battle with cancer. She was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, which returned in 2019 and spread to her bones and brain.
Milano reacted to Doherty's passing with a statement, acknowledging their complicated relationship and expressing respect for her as an actress. "She was a talented actress, beloved by many," Milano said, "and the world is less without her."
