AceShowbiz - In a candid interview, Jack Quaid, the son of Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan, acknowledged his status as a "nepo baby." It's a term used to refer to actors who have family connections in the entertainment industry.
"I'm inclined to agree," said Quaid, acknowledging his privileged upbringing and the early representation he received. "I'm grateful for the opportunities that have been open to me."
However, Quaid is determined to prove his worth beyond his family's legacy. He has deliberately chosen roles in genre storytelling, from his debut in "The Hunger Games" to his breakout performance as Hughie Campbell on "The Boys".
"I don't want to just step into my mother's rom-com space," Quaid said. "It has to be something different."
Despite his success, Quaid admits that his status as a "nepo baby" can attract attention. "People have called me that, and I'm not going to pretend it's not true," he said.
However, Quaid's mother, Meg Ryan, has defended him against the label. "That nepo stuff is so dismissive of his work ethic," Ryan said last year.
Quaid appreciates his mother's support but acknowledges that both privilege and hard work have contributed to his success. "I've heard 'no' a lot more than I've heard 'yes,'" he said. "But I also know that this industry is incredibly competitive."
In an episode of "The Last Laugh" podcast, Quaid discusses how his role in "The Boys" has evolved over the years. "Hughie grounds the show, reacting to the insanity in a realistic way," he said.
The actor also shares his thoughts on the show's political satire, noting that it aims to convey that "anyone who claims they have all the answers is lying."
Reflecting on his diverse career, Quaid expresses his love for genre filmmaking. "I think you can tell really cool stories in that space," he said.
Despite his success, Quaid remains humble about his journey. "I'm very lucky to be where I am," he said. "I'll always work hard to prove that I deserve to be here."
