AceShowbiz - In a relationship that has sparked intrigue and scrutiny, actress Meagan Good has defended her decision to date Jonathan Majors despite his ongoing legal troubles. The "Think Like a Man" star's relationship with the former Marvel actor began in May 2023, just months after Majors was arrested and later found guilty of assault and harassment charges.
Good, 42, addressed the concerns raised by her friends regarding her relationship with Majors during an appearance on "Today with Hoda & Jenna." Although she acknowledged that "every friend advised" her against the relationship, she emphasized the importance of following her own instincts and spiritual guidance.
"Uh, yeah every friend advised me, but at the end of the day, one thing I know is I can always look at myself in the mirror when I trust my spirit, when I trust God, when I ask God, and when I move to the beat of my own drum," Good said. She underscored that, despite taking her loved ones' opinions into account, she ultimately has to "live my life."
The couple's relationship has been met with public interest and skepticism, especially given Majors' conviction in December 2023 for a domestic violence incident involving his ex-girlfriend, British dancer Grace Jabbari. Majors was sentenced to 52 weeks of a domestic violence intervention program and probation, amidst ongoing legal battles and attempts to clear his name.
Despite the challenges, Good described their relationship as "wonderful," highlighting the mutual support and respect they have for each other. "The support we've been able to give each other, the pouring into each other, the honest conversations, the love, the respect, just the care and the thoughtfulness, it's just been really wonderful," she enthused.
Reflecting on her past, Good mentioned her previous ten-year marriage to producer DeVon Franklin, stating that valuable lessons learned from her marriage contribute to her personal growth. "I was married for a decade to a wonderful person, and we're still friends. To me, it's a success when you've learned a lot, when you've given a lot, when you take a lot with you, when you're a better person for it," she remarked.
The couple made their red carpet debut in March at the 7th annual AAFCA Special Achievement Awards, solidifying their public relationship three months after Majors' conviction. Standing by each other during these tumultuous times, they continue to face the challenges together. Majors, who maintains his innocence, is also attempting to salvage his career, recently landing a role in an upcoming independent film, "Merciless."
Their relationship remains under intense scrutiny, reflecting broader societal conversations about love, trust, and redemption amidst personal and legal controversies.
