AceShowbiz - Cara Delevingne gets candid about her sobriety journey. In a new interview published on Sunday, July 7, the actress/model opened up about her past struggles with substance abuse that started when she was 8.

Speaking with The Sunday Times, the "Suicide Squad" star recalled trying alcohol at her aunt's nuptials back in 2001. "I got drunk that day," she admitted. "I was eight, what a crazy age to get drunk."

Cara, who has been sober since 2022, added that she turned to substances to help her cope with hard times. "I used to think drugs and alcohol helped me cope," she shared. "But they didn't, they kept me sad and super depressed. I feel like I've got my power back and I'm not being controlled by other things."

The "American Horror Story: Delicate" actress finally got the reality check to sober up after paparazzi photos of her acting erratically following the 2022 Burning Man festival hit the web. "Listen, I signed up for this, this is my job, it's what I do. But without that would I be sober now?" she asked herself. Referencing her role in "Cabaret", she added, "I would have never been Sally Bowles in the West End, I'm super proud of that."

In the interview, Cara also talked about the massive fire that engulfed her Los Angeles home back in March. "It sucks but everyone was safe and, like anything, if I'd not been sober I would still be reeling over that," the "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" actress said.

"It would still affect me really deeply. Of course it affected me, it's super sad," she continued, "It never won't be. But I don't use it as a tool to keep myself sad." Despite being sober, Cara is fine when her friends are drinking while out together at parties, festivals or other places.

Cara additionally discussed attending Glastonbury sober. "It smelt bad, my feet hurt and I didn't stay up so late, but it was just as much fun. I never want my life to change in that way," the "Carnival Row" star recalled.
