AceShowbiz - New images from Marvel Studios' "Deadpool & Wolverine" have graced fans with a clearer look at the enigmatic villain, Cassandra Nova. Emma Corrin will portray the formidable character in the blockbuster.
Created by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely, Cassandra is a parasitic life form from the astral plane, telepathically intertwined with her brother, Charles Xavier. It remains to be seen if the film will adhere to her comic book origin, or present a variant from the multiverse.
"Deadpool & Wolverine" marks the first "X-Men" movie under Marvel Studios and is set to set up Cassandra Nova as its most formidable villain. The film's connection to Professor X remains uncertain, but the speculation of a variant Charles being behind Cassandra's schemes is tantalizing. Corrin's portrayal will likely originate from another corner of the multiverse, with her headquarters residing in the Void at the end of time.
Ryan Reynolds, known as the Merc With a Mouth, had a surprising condition for his return as Deadpool: Shawn Levy had to helm the project. Their collaboration on "The Adam Project" forged a bond that Reynolds was eager to continue. The longstanding friendship between Reynolds, Levy, and Hugh Jackman played a pivotal role in convincing Jackman to reprise his iconic role as Wolverine.
The film also features an array of cameos, including Lady Deathstrike from "X2: X-Men United". Kelly Hu, who portrayed the character in the 2003 film, will not be returning for "Deadpool & Wolverine", leaving room for a new interpretation of the villain. In one of the newly-revealed pictures courtesy of Entertaintment Weekly, the femme fatale is seen being played by Yuriko Oyama.
Speculation surrounding Reynolds' potential appearance in the next Avengers ensemble has been fueled by the actor's cryptic social media posts. Marvel Studios is reportedly in talks with Levy to direct "Avengers 5", solidifying the director's central role in the expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe.
"Deadpool & Wolverine" opens in theaters on July 26, promising a thrilling adventure filled with iconic characters, groundbreaking action, and the unexpected twists and turns that have become synonymous with the X-Men franchise.
