After offering first look at Nathan Fillion's Green Lantern and Isabela Merced's Hawkgirl, new set photos from James Gunn's upcoming Superman movie gives a potential hint at another iconic DC character.

AceShowbiz - Filming is well underway for James Gunn's highly anticipated "Superman" movie, and the latest set photos tease the introduction of several new characters. Among them is Hawkgirl, portrayed by Isabela Merced, who is seen without her signature wings, likely to be added digitally later. Nathan Fillion also appears as the Guy Gardner iteration of Green Lantern, sporting his trademark red hair and a modernized version of his classic costume.
Intriguingly, one of the set photos shows a woman carrying a squirrel in a case to David Corenswet, who plays Superman. This has led to speculation that Ch'p, an anthropomorphic squirrel and member of the Green Lantern Corps, may make an appearance in the film.
Other confirmed characters in the movie include Mister Terrific, played by Edi Gathegi, and The Engineer, portrayed by Maria Gabriela de Faria Chacon. The Engineer is a member of The Authority, a morally complex team set to have their own feature film in the DCU. Set photos have also hinted at the appearance of characters such as Bizarro or Ultraman, though these have not been officially confirmed.
Despite concerns raised over the similar leather suits worn by Hawkgirl, Green Lantern and Mister Terrific, it's believed that these costumes are part of a deliberate stylistic choice by Gunn. According to the theory, Maxwell Lord, played by Sean Gunn, is funding the heroes' activities, which explains the uniformity in their attire. As the story progresses, Superman's emergence may inspire these heroes to adopt more comic-accurate costumes.
Gunn has previously stated that the film will explore Superman's dual life as Clark Kent and the Man of Steel, suggesting that these other superheroes will serve as his "super friends." The extent of their involvement in the story remains to be seen.
Superman is scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025, and is set to be a pivotal film in establishing the new DCU under Gunn and Peter Safran's leadership. The introduction of these iconic characters and the intriguing hints at a wider tapestry of heroes and villains promise an exciting future for the franchise.
