The 58-year-old actor, known for his iconic role on 'Grey's Anatomy', has signed on to star on Showtime's upcoming 'Dexter: Original Sin' series as a full-time cast member.

AceShowbiz - Paramount+ Showtime's highly anticipated "Dexter: Original Sin" has added Patrick Dempsey to its all-star cast. The "Grey's Anatomy" alum will portray Aaron Spencer, the Miami Metro Homicide Captain who has a decades-long relationship with Harry Morgan (played by Christian Slater).

Set in 1991, "Dexter: Original Sin" follows a young Dexter Morgan (Patrick Gibson) as he navigates his transformation into an avenging serial killer under the guidance of his adoptive father, Harry. When his bloodthirsty urges escalate, Dexter learns to channel his inner darkness to eliminate those he deems worthy of elimination.

Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and President/CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios, praised Dempsey's addition to the cast, "Patrick Dempsey is an internationally renowned actor known for his iconic performances. We are thrilled to have him join our all-star cast of 'Dexter: Original Sin', the highly anticipated origin story of the franchise."

The prequel series also stars Molly Brown as Debra Morgan, James Martinez as Angel Batista, Christina Milian as Maria LaGuerta, Alex Shimizu as Vince Masuka, and Reno Wilson as Bobby Watt.

Patrick Dempsey's casting marks his return to American television as a series regular since leaving "Grey's Anatomy" in 2021. Since then, he has appeared in several films and the Italian television series "Devils".

Clyde Phillips, the original showrunner and executive producer of "Dexter", serves in the same capacity for "Original Sin". The series follows the 2021 limited series "Dexter: New Blood", which itself was a continuation of the original "Dexter" that ran for eight seasons from 2006 to 2013.
