In the wake of the success of her viral song, the RnB star throws shades at her ex-label while speaking about the effort that goes into releasing her own music.

AceShowbiz - Tinashe makes sure everyone knows her worth. In the wake of the success of her viral song "Nasty", the R&B star threw shades at her ex-label while speaking about the effort that goes into releasing her own music.

Speaking to TMZ, Tinashe, who left RCA Records in 2019, said the success of her new single left her former label "gagging." In a separate interview, she further shared her struggle to be an independent artist.

"I have to keep it 100 with people," Tinashe explained in an interview with Polyester. "It is not easy being independent."

She also admitted that it's not easy "to find enough money to be able to fund the things you want to create, putting together a live show, or making a music video." She added, "Those things cost a lot of money and to be able to maintain that on your own is very hard."

"Nasty" debuted at No. 90 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking Tinashe's first single on that chart since r featured appearance on Britney Spears' "Slumber Party" in 2016. The song becomes her fourth career entry on the chart, and her second career entry in a lead role, after "2 On" featuring ScHoolboyQ in 2014.

This wasn't the first time for Tinashe to slam her former label. During a 2023 appearance on "Zach Sang Show", the singer claimed she was forced to do collabs with other artists, including R. Kelly, against her will.

"I literally block out that R. Kelly song from my mind," the singer divulged. "I forget that it even exists. That is so embarrassing. That is so unreal that I even have a song with R. Kelly. That's so embarrassing."

She also shared that she wasn't exactly thrilled to have a song with Chris Brown. "He was their biggest artist that they had on rhythmic radio at the time," she shared. "To me, I was like, 'Well, this is a pop song. So, I really don't feel like we should put Chris on it.' That doesn't compute to me, but I don't know."
